It is always recommended to remove any existing installations of Node.js or npm from your operating system before installing a version manager as the different types of installation can lead to strange and confusing conflicts. There are alternative version managers to consider as well covered in the next section. Instead, we recommend installing nvm-windows and then using it to install Node.js and Node Package Manager (npm). Node Version Manager, more commonly called nvm, is the most popular way to install multiple versions of Node.js, but is only available for Mac/Linux and not supported on Windows. You will likely need to switch between multiple Node.js versions based on the needs of different projects you're working on. We recommend using a version manager as versions change very quickly.
